Description:

The provinces of Netherlands were split between Northern Protestants and Southern Catholics. Spain’s control of the Northern half was ultimately lost after and very costly war which reduced its power massively. (Palmer 124-9) This is an extremely important event for Spain because it ultimately results in failure and the eventual loss of power for Spain.
