Description:

A council of the Catholic Church that was in response to the Protestant Reformation - although entirely too late to stop it. It redefined the idea of justification by works and faith while also giving a voice to many of the concerns Catholics had at this time. (Palmer 94) This event is chosen over things such as the sack of Rome because it was the ultimate fix that the Catholics needed to secure themselves; the sack of Rome was just a radical push towards that step.
