Description:
A war fought in the East Indies by Vasco de Gama to secure the rich trade routes that he had discovered four years earlier. It is through these routes that many countries such as Spain and Portugal gained massive riches that led them to be powerful during the 16th century. This overrides the discoveries of Columbus in 1492 because of the amount of immediate wealth that was given to those who controlled these trade routes. (Palmer 102)
