feb 18, 1648 - Louis XIV became king.
Description:
After the reigns of both King Henry IV and Cardinal Richelieu respectively, the stage was set for arguably the most powerful ruler in French history. The Sun King (King Louis XIV) started his reign when he was only 4 years old put was still under the shadow of Cardinal Mazarin, who ended up ending the Thirty Years’ War. When Mazarin died, Louis XIV was still only 22 years old and had taken complete control of the government. He first weakened the noble authority and increased the power of government agents who collected taxes. As he moved forward he kept power under central control and made regular communication a priority.
