jul 12, 1605 - Don Quixote was written
Description:
In 1605, the “Don Quixote de la Mancha” was published. This is also known as the birth of the modern European novel. Written by Miguel De Cervantes, the book is based upon a poor Spanish nobleman who read too many books about heroic knights. The moral of the book is for every man to “right every manner of wrong.” This is presented in the story when Don Quixote, the main character, rode forth in a rusty suit of armor while on a feeble horse. The book ended up gaining extreme criticism by mimicking chivalry, which was the knightly code of the Middle Ages. The positive reviews came from the idea that he longed for the romantic past because of his frustration from his current situation.
