sep 24, 1532 - King Henry VIII founded the Anglican Church and split from the Catholic Church in 1532
Description:
King Henry VIII splitting England from the Catholic Church is a significant event in history because it decreased the power and influence of the Catholic Church. With King Henry’s foundation of the Anglican Church in 1532, many English were pleased with the Anglican Church and many gained in wealth due to the many acts of Henry, such as the Dissolution of monasteries. The dissolution of monasteries decreased the wealth of the Catholic Church and gained wealth for England. Christians dreaded paying the many taxes to the church. Not only were there several taxes, but there were other significant costs, such as being buried on holy ground. Being buried on holy ground was required to go to heaven. This made it easy for King Henry to get the people of England to accept King Henry as the Supreme Head of the Church by an act of parliament in 1534. The Catholic Church’s lost of wealth caused the Church to lose influence.
