Description:

The Edict of Nantes was passed in 1589 by Henry IV which allowed the huguenots to again live peacefully in France. The document was a step in the direction of religious tolerance and peace which would later be canceled by Louis XIV. It did allow for an end to the fighting between the Protestants and Catholics in France while it was in effect and helped france begin again to grow in power and influence.
