Released nationwide on February 8th, 1938, Snow White became a huge box office success and Disney was awarded an Honorary Academy Award for the achievement. With it being a huge success, Disney was able to continue making animated films, even though the ones following such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi did not produce a profit on their first release. Based on a 19th-century German fairy tale, it was re-mastered for young audiences in the U.S. with a nicer appeal. Family entertainment boomed.
