Description:

The Tokugawa Shogunate was a stable and isolated culture with a flowering japanese culture. People lived a structure life in the Shogunate. The ruler was the shogun which is the supreme military commander. Although there was an emperor, it was just a figurehead. A traditional culture thrived in the shogunate. The Majority of women at the time lived restricted lives. Samurai went to ceremonial noh dramas and people read haiku poems. There was a very large peasant population during this time. Many peasant farmers left their farms and went on to be a merchant as the culture became more urbanized.
