Description:

The Edict of Nantes created religious tolerance in France between Protestants and Catholics. The Edict of Nantes was promulgated by King Henry IV gave religious liberty to protestants in France. King Henry IV converted to Roman Catholicism at the same time that the Edict of Nantes when into effect. This Edict ended the Wars of Religion and was one of the first rulings of religious tolerance in Europe. The Edict also gave religious and civil rights to the French Protestants even though they were the minority. Protestants could still do things such as get an education. A special court called the Chambre de l’Edit with Protestant and Catholics was also put into action.
