dec 22, 1807 - Embargo Act of 1807

Description:

Law passed by George Washington, which prohibited American trade with foreign nations/ ports. George Washington's intentions/ purpose for this was to head away from the direction of war and protect themselves from the seizing of their ships. This event is critical because it shows that Americans in this time, when France and Britain were still "Heated", America wanted to stay neutral and out of it so that they don't end up having to lose more men and money then they already have during the the American Revolution. America in the world during this time was more in the middle of all it (more geographically) but not involved in it (neutral).
