may 29, 1700 BC - God Speaks to Abraham

Description:

“The story of Abraham and his descendents is found in the book of Genesis.” Abraham was a shepherd that migrated from Ur in Mesopotamia. This was a polytheistic age, which meant the age of believing in many gods, instead of one. Abraham got the calls from one god, and later on he believed in monotheism. Abraham was the first person to recognize and worship the one God. And from that the belief called monotheism was born. When Abraham became an adult, God asked Abraham to leave his family, home, country and he makes Abraham three promises: the promise of a relationship with God, various descendents and land. But the problem was that Abraham and his wife Sarah are old people and childless. They have to leave their home country not knowing who God is. So Abraham has to place his trust in the hands of God. God gave Abraham not only his promises, but also God changes his name to Abraham, meaning 'father of the people'.
