mar 15, 1886 - Eugen Goldstein
Description:
He primarily worked in the Potsdam lab and worked with rays and vacuums to discover many things. He discovered canal rays which have a positive charge equal to the electron. This led him to believe that there is a particle in the atom that is positive and counteracts the electron. This ended up being the proton and is how the atom does not collapse in on itself. Between the repelling of the negatively charged electrons and the pull between the positive protons and negative electrons, the atom is able to stay stable under most normal circumstances.
