Smoke Signals were generay used to transmit news, signal danger or gather people.This way of communication was used in Ancient China to warn each other of an attack. It was also used in North American Tribes and by the Greek Historian - Polybius. Some chains of fires could reach as far as 300miles in a matter of hours.
