jan 1, 1572 - Bartholomew Day Massacre

Description:

The Bartholomew day massacre was started when the king of France ordered the killing of a specific Huguenot group. The attack was supposed to be limited to one specific Huguenot group but because of religious tensions in Paris, the violence grew into to a Catholic mob rampaging through Paris killing Huguenots. The death toll is believed to have ranged from 2,000 to 70,000 Huguenots. This marked a breaking point for tensions between Catholics and Huguenots in France.
