may 18, 1823 - Monroe Doctrine 1823

Description:

In his annual message to congress, President Monroe presents the later coined “Monroe Doctrine”, which restates the U.S.’ policy of neutrality, warns European nations that the US will not accept any recolonization of the Western Hemisphere, and states that the land is no longer available for colonization of any kind. By banning European countries along with others from forming permanent settlements in the US, the country is strengthened and unified, as the whole land mass is ruled under one power, and future conflicts such as war are avoided, which could lead to disastrous wars that would divide the country and tear it apart. as nations with different views are not allowed into the territory.
