jan 6, 1819 - Adams-Onís Treaty 1819

Description:

Under Monroe, John Quincy Adams was sent to negotiate a treaty with Spanish minister Onís, relating to the matter of invasions from Spanish Florida as Native American tribes frequently attacked Georgian plantations in attempt to free working slaves. The treaty signed over the rest of Florida, the land from the Louisiana Purchase, and Oregon to the United States as new territory within the union, which was a great success and empowered the nation with the inclusion of new lands.
