Description:

The Declaration of Independence, originally drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was signed and passed through congress on July 4th, 1776, or America’s birthday. The declaration broke ties from Britain. The declaration was based on the idea that everyone was entitled to “…life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…”. While there was still a war to be fought for true independence, this was a major step in America gaining nationhood.
