Description:
Jay’s Treaty stated that the British needed to evacuate their forts in the Northwest Territories as well as pay back the U.S. for stolen cargo in the early 1790s, and in return the U.S. would get rid of duties on imports from Britain for 10 years. The treaty caused much conflict between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans because the Democratic-Republicans believed the treaty jeopardized their fruitful relationship with France among other issues.
