apr 10, 1820 - Missouri Compromise - 1820

Description:

The Missouri Compromise was an agreement in 1820 signed by President James Monroe to admit two states into the United States, Missouri and Maine. It prohibited slavery North of the 36’ parallel-north, and allowed slavery south of this line. This compromise had political influence because it gave Missouri the right to own slaves, and it made Maine an anti-slave state. It also had an influence on power in the United States because it established more states and established more representation for each political side in Congress.
