jan 20, 1387 - 'The Canterbury Tales', Geoffrey Chaucer

Description:

Succession of stories told by different characters and narrate their pilgrimage from an inn to Canterbury. They are suggested to tell 2 tales on their way there and 2 on their way back. They relate a realistic portrait of society (nun, cook, knight...). The tales exemplify different genres from romance to sermon, to fantastic tale.
By using London dialect, Chaucer also helped to establish it as the precursor of modern standard English
