jan 1, 1801 - Judicial Act of 1801

Description:

The act was passed by the Federalists before they lost the majority in Congress, as well as the presidency. Its goal was to keep Jefferson from appointing judges.

The act reduced the number of Supreme Court Justices from 6 -> 5, and filled many empty judgeships the night before the Democratic-Republicans came into power.
