On November 2, 1859 John Brown was sentenced to death by hanging for treason, murder, and insurrection. John Brown was a crazed abolitionist who formed a group and raided a southern armory in an attempt to lead a slave revolt and end slavery. His act caused many peaceful abolisionist to turn to more violent behaviors.
