sep 1, 1944 - Liberation of the Netherlands begins
Description:
Throughout WW2 the Netherlands was occupied by Germany, and the First Canadian Army was given the task of liberating it. The Canadians first liberated the port of Antwerp so allied forces could land and provide reinforcements. Liberating the Netherlands took many months to complete, but was a contributing factor in the fall of Germany. Over 7,600 Canadians died in the liberation, but their sacrifice is remembered by the Dutch people.
