feb 6, 1791 - French guilds abolished
Description:
Guilds had been an important facet of the Western European economy ever since the Middle Ages. Thye prospered under mercantilism, but economic liberals criticized them. French reformers such as Jacques Turgot viewed them as limiting economic freedom. With the French Revolution, French guilds were thus abolished along with many other traditional aspects of French society.
