oct 20, 1930 - White Papers II

Description:

The White Papers II were a British issued document that limited Jewish land purchase, limited Jewish immigration, and formed an Arab legislative council. The Jews were angry by these limitation since they wanted Palestine to become their homeland and they thought they’d have the support of the British. Especially with increasing discrimination of Jews in Europe, as a result of the rise of Fascism, Jews needed a country to escape to. On the other hand, the Arabs were very happy by this because Arab unemployment had risen with the increasing immigration of Jews. Additionally, they were pleased with the formation of an Arab legislative council because the council would allow for the Arab’s to have organized representation.
This is an important event in Zionist History because it was an anti-zionist effort that forced Jews to illegally immigrate to Palestine. Also, it was harmful to Jews living in Palestine at the time who were trying to grow the land since land purchases were limited.
