sep 15, 1845 - Irish Potato Famine: 1845-60

Description:

An incident in which potatoes suffered from what is known as late blight, caused by phytophthora infestans. It infects both potatoes and tomatos and though it is considered fungal, it is actually a part of the Oomycota family. In the end the destruction of crops was a major player in the migration of the Irish to the US.
