Description:
Woodcut is a printing technique in which an artist carves images into a block of wood which leaves the printed parts on the surface while removing the non-printed parts. This technique dates back to the 10th century in China with the oldest known printed image as a Buddhist image. This form of printing is credited to originating in Germany in 1508 and chiaroscuro woodcuts became most popular.
