oct 16, 1859 - Raid on Harpers Ferry

Description:

On October 16, 1859, John Brown led a raid attack on Harpers Ferry in Virginia. Brown was an abolitionist, and wanted weapons from the armory to organize a slave revolt. He and his party were defeated by a company of US Marines. The near raid gave anti-slavery activists and salves hope, stuck fear into those pro-slavery, and made John Brown a martyr.
