This case that face the Sumpreme Court was a case no one was ready for. In this case, Dred Scott, who was a slave, claimed he was in a free state which he was. The Court system did not know hoe to handle this. Seven of the nine justices declared that Scott was still a slave while still disagreeing on the legan rationnale. This case changed many view points on slaves and slave's owners
