jun 12, 1856 - The elections of 1856
Description:
The American Party was split along sectional lines over slavery. Both the north and the south had different opinions on the matter. The southern faction nominated Millard Fillmore while the northern nominated Fremont. During this campaign, the Republicans won votes of many northers. With the American Party splitting, the Republicans had replaced the Whigs as the second major many. This changed American history and maybe a reason for the Civil War.
