mar 22, 1894 - Pest Houses and Leprosy
Description:
In fear of leprosy, people with it get forced into pest houses. In Lousiana an abandoned sugar plantation gets made into one of two leper colonies in the United States. Staffed by nuns from the Daughters of Charity, those inside were not allowed to leave, their letters were fumigated, they couldn't return their Cocoa Cola bottles and they even have their own special currency. All to keep a largely non-contagious populace separate from others.
