apr 22, 2006 - Stem Cells
Description:
Researchers in Kyoto, Japan discovered that adult stem cells could be converted into pluripotent cells (cells which can create other types of cells such as blood or nerve cells). This discovery is especially useful in medicine concerning regeneration that could potentially replace cells in the spine of a paraplegic. However, the cultivation of these cells is controversial in that it requires breaking down the pre-implantation stage embryo. Putting ethics aside, these cells could prove to be greatly useful in regenerating those people that have lost cells.
