apr 26, 1967 - Endosymbiosis
Description:
Lynn Margulis postulated the idea that bacteria could evolve to live symbiotically in order to survive conditions that were not favorable for anaerobic bacteria. The anaerobic bacteria would ingest the aerobic bacteria, and both would live symbiotically, that is, living in a partnership that ensured prolonged survival. Mitochondrion in the cells are thought to have originated through endosymbiosis.
