aug 27, 1920 - Prohibition
Description:
During the 1920s, the distribution and consumption of alcohol was banned in the United States. It was quite difficult to enforce, with many people making moonshine and many underground bars, or speakeasies, being run. However, the price of illegally produced liquor was quite high, disproportionately affecting poor citizens. Also, the price of imprisoning so many people was high, and the thought of all the jobs created if alcohol was legalized was enticing, so Roosevelt repealed it.
