Description:
The Congress adopted the Selective Service Act in order to create conscription which would help the army grow because by the beginning of 1917 it would only count 133 000 members. This was the first time conscription was imposed since the Civil War. This act led to 2.8 million men enrolled in the army during the Great War. 2 more million of Americans served vonluntarily in the US army during the conflict.
