Description:
On August 13, 1961, the Communist government of the German Democratic Republic began to build a barbed wire and concrete anti-fascist bulwark between East and West Berlin to prevent citizens from Western Germany traveling or living in Eastern Germany. Citizens from both sides of the wall did not like the idea of the Berlin Wall but the idea of the wall was suggested for the first time by Nikita Khrushchev of the Soviet Union.
