Events- Bleeding Kansas was when both pro-slavery and anti-slavery Americans rushed to Kansas. This was because the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 allowed the states to either permit or ban slavery based on a popular vote.
Effects - This led to the Civil war because fighting amongst the two sides resulted in the death of fifty-six people. This burst of bloodshed shocked the nation and created even wider divisions between the North and the South.
