Description:
The Mexican- American war was between the United States and Mexico. The United States won the war. It was originally started in order to expand the U.S territory. It was also seen as a way to accomplish the feeling of manifest destiny.
This event led to the Civil War because so much land was gained. There was the need to keep a balance between free states and slave states, but with the new territory, there was unrest. No one knew what would happen and if the balance would be maintained. Without it, the states would split and there would be a war. An event that eventually happened.
