jan 1, 1777 - Antoine Lavoisier discovers elements

Description:

In 1777, Antoine Lavoisier proves that the compound of "sulfur" is not a compound, but an element. This discovery would deem Lavoisier "The Father of Modern Chemistry."

He would also find other elements such as "Oxygen," "Carbon," and "Hydrogen" in later years. He also disproved the thought that water was an element.

In relation to the Periodic Table of Elements, Lavoisier's contributions would eventually lead to the first edition. He categorized his findings into four groups: Gasses, Metals, Nonmetals, and Earths.
