oct 17, 1777 - Saratoga
Description:
The Battle of Saratoga was basically the turning point of the American Revolution. It was the first battle in which the French aided the Americans in their fight against Great Britain. In this battle the British army, which was led by General John Burgoyne, had made the terrible mistake for the British by slowly advancing towards the South; the American army, however, used this as an opportunity to regroup under General Horatio Gates. George Washington was also able to send Benedict Arnold, Colonel Daniel Morgan, and their forces, as well as two brigades of Continentals to strengthen Gates' army. The American militia was then able to defeat Burgoyne’s army, ultimately forcing him to surrender.
