oct 19, 1781 - Siege of Yorktown

Description:

After winning a costly victory in North Carolina, Lord Cornwallis joined other British forces at a base in Yorktown. A few months later, George Washington ordered Marquis de Lafayette and an American army to block Cornwallis' escape and gathered his army as well as a French force under Count de Rochambeau General Cornwallis to put Yorktown under siege. Cornwallis finally surrendered after three weeks of continuous bombardments. This event was the last major land battle as it lead to the British government to compromise an end to the conflict.
