jul 20, 1848 - At Seneca Falls, New York, 300 women and men sign the Declaration of Sentiments.

Description:

The first women’s right convention was held in Seneca County Courier, Seneca Falls, New York, to “discuss the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of woman.”. It was organised by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a young housewife and mother and the Quaker abolitionist, Lucrieta Mott. After 2 days of discussion and debate, 68 women and 32 men sign a ‘Declaration of Sentiments’, which outlines grievances and sets the agenda for the women's rights movement. A set of 12 resolutions was adopted calling for equal treatment of women and men under the law and voting rights for women. The women’s rights movement had begun.
Women's rights conventions were held regularly from 1850 until the start of the civil war.
