may 21, 1985 - Chapter 3: (Salva) Southern Sudan, 1985
Description:
Salva is sad and once again, alone. As he ponders what will happen, he comes across an elder Dinka woman. She is kind and friendly and takes Salva in. In return, Salva works hard and does chores for so she won't abandon him like the first group did. However, nothing good lasts long. On the fourth day of his stay, the woman tells Salva that she must leave because there is not enough water and too much fighting. She also tells Salva that he cannot come along because it would be too dangerous. And for the third time, Salva is all alone. However, soon after the woman leaves, another (different) group of Dinka men come into view. And Salva starts to wonder again if his family is among
them. This scenario probably didn't occur exactly for others in Southern Sudan, but abandoned kids would sometimes be taken in by other adults or walking groups.
