dec 6, 1722 - One of the First Anglican Churches is Established
Description:
Christ Church, also known as the Old North Church, was first established in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, in December of 1722. It was one of the first Anglican Churches in the Americas. This is an important event because it not only did help establish this religion at the time, but this religion also had ties to the trade networks and logwood cutting. The Anglicans were dependent on the trade network because of their minority status, but this allowed them to be an asset to the network. Logwood cutting was also an important trade during this time, and it tied the Anglicans and the trade network to each other. This religious group was a positive asset to trade networks during the Early Modern Era, and the establishment of Christ Church was an aid to this. Ross Newton quotes "Their involvement with this church and the actions of church vestrymen who procured and sold logwood from the Bay of Honduras further show Anglicanism as a binding force within the eighteenth-century imperial Atlantic."
