Orson Welles performed a radio adaptation of H.G. Wells's "The War of the Words." In his adaptation, Welles created fake news bulletins about an alien invasion of New Jersey. Some startled listeners believed the bulletins, calling the police and newspapers. The next morning, reports of mass panic caused by the radio show were widespread.
