feb 20, 1919 - The Rowlett Act
Description:
This act was passed in 1919 based upon the report submitted by Rowlett commission. It was heavily opposed by the assembly. Some Indian leaders who were part of the assembly the resigned from their post including Mohammad Ali Jinnah. All these reasons led Gandhi to call for a nationwide protest against the Rowlatt Act. The day 6th April 1919 was observed as national humiliation day.
The protest turned out as a huge mass agitation and Govt. used various brutal ways to control: firing, lathi charge, etc.
