apr 15, 1680 - improvement upon trade relations between Indigenous and Hudson's Bay Company
Description:
The directors of the Hudsons Bay Company urged Nixon to draw up terms in order for the indigenous people to understand that their land was no longer theirs and that they could no longer freely trade. The pipe ceremony meant that groups were now bonded spiritually, and this meant that these groups would begin trading seasonally. Trade relationships began with gift giving, wampum would take the form of necklaces belts or aprons constructed of beads made of mollusks (white periwinkle and blue quahog) beads.
