jan 1, 800 - Charlemagne crowned
as emperor of the Holy
Roman Empire
Description:
As Emperor, Charlemagne is famous for his union of the church and state, which in turn led to a steadfast hold on power for both institutions.
To help reinforce this control, Charlemagne propagated the widespread use of Gregorian chant all across his kingdom as a sort of standardized musical propaganda that all his churches would have in common.
