jun 8, 1867 - Austria- Hungary is formed
Description:
Austria- Hungary was formed on June 8, 1867, after separating from the Austrian Empire. The Austrian Empire was made up of very diverse people who wanted to govern themselves as they were inspired by nationalist ideas. When Francis Joseph inherited the Hapsburg throne, he made some reforms including a new legislature, but Hungarians were not satisfied because the body was led by purely German-speaking Austrians. After Austria won its war with Prussia, Hungarians pressured the Hapsburgs for a compromise. With the help of Ferenc Deak, the Dual Monarchy was created between Austria and Hungary. The Dual Monarchy stated each area had their own constitution and parliament, but they still shared the same rulers.
